The Pink Pig
● AvailableThis work is part of my Stories series, a body of work through which I give voice to creatures that cannot defend themselves, speak for themselves, or choose their own destiny.
I created this piece on a reclaimed advertising panel found in Barcelona. On its surface, I placed an old pink pig discovered at Els Encants flea market. A flow of resin and fragments of gold leaf connect the animal to the support, creating a suspended landscape where attraction and captivity coexist. The gold evokes the economic value that society assigns to living beings, while the resin preserves and traps at the same time.
The pig stands at the edge of an unknown territory. Its small body appears vulnerable against the vast surrounding space, becoming a symbol of all those lives that are moved, traded, owned, relocated, or sacrificed without consent. The animal is both itself and something more: a witness to the invisible mechanisms through which living creatures become commodities.
While creating this work, I found myself returning to my own story. As a child, decisions made by adults separated me from the world I knew and carried me across the ocean to Brazil. Like the pig, I had no voice in that journey. There was a "no" I could not say, or perhaps a "no" that no one was prepared to hear.
In this piece, the pig becomes a quiet alter ego. Its presence embodies the experience of displacement, rupture, and imposed belonging. The gold leaf shines with the seductive language of value and possession, while underneath it lies a more fragile truth: every being that is bought, exchanged, transported, or claimed has a story, a memory, and a silent resistance.
Through this work, I question the boundaries between value and dignity, ownership and care, commerce and compassion. Above all, I invite the viewer to listen to the voice hidden within the object, and to the "no" that remains suspended in the space between vulnerability and survival.
