Indigo

Exhibited in 2024 at the historic Montserrat Gallery in the Chelsea art district of New York, Indigo stands as a fundamental chapter within the Sensitive Horizons series, where my exploration of fractures and horizons shifts toward a deeply introspective and meditative dimension.

The artwork is structured upon a rigorous spatial and chromatic dichotomy. The upper half is dominated by a dense, profound indigo: an absolute blue that evokes the silence of the infinite and a sense of suspension. In contrast, the lower section welcomes a heavily layered and vibrant materiality, where warm, sandy tones emerge from a foundation of dark markings, carrying the memory of lived emotions and experiences. Splitting and connecting these two hemispheres is a sharp horizon line, a sliver of light embodying the very concept of a fracture understood as a threshold.

In Indigo, this boundary also serves as a canvas to explore the Japanese philosophy of "ma" (間). The line of demarcation is not an insurmountable barrier, but a temporal interval symbolizing the "active void" that provides rhythm and meaning to the composition. It is the exact space where the chaos of earthly matter calms and opens up to the vastness of the blue.

Within the Sensitive Horizons series, Indigo whispers a sense of spiritual resilience. Here, the application of pure color does not overpower; rather, it welcomes and diffuses the restlessness of the textured section. The fracture thus ceases to be a wound of the interior landscape, transforming instead into a temporal hinge: a sensitive horizon where the viewer can pause, waiting for a new beginning.
