The Blue Shark
● AvailableIn The Blue Shark, the rigid urban geometry of Barcelona meets the fluid, unpredictable narrative of the sea. The foundation of the piece is an original Panot de Flor, the iconic flower-patterned paving stone that defines the city's streets, representing structural memory, weight, and land. Suspended at 1.5 cm above this stone block by a hidden resin cylinder is an organic, wavy pane of transparent resin, tinted the exact color of seawater.
This deliberate gap creates a floating horizon, an architectural tension between the heavy earth and the liquid realm. Emerging from the center is a shark figurine, a discarded object rescued from the historic Els Encants flea market. It is trapped in a shallow, deep-blue resin pond, its mouth slightly open.
Leaning into the absurdity of contemporary ecosystems, both the animal's body and the surrounding water are punctuated by tiny, colorful plastic circles arranged in imperfect, microplastic-like spirals. The piece thrives on deliberate contrasts: the historical permanence of the stone tile versus the synthetic longevity of resin and plastic; the analytical precision of the levitating structure versus the chaotic, playful tragedy of the scene. It is a poignant, surreal snapshot of survival and transformation within an altered world.
