Copper

Copper abstract mixed media is an evocative piece, a significant work from my ongoing “Our Planet” series. This 100x100cm artwork, created in 2023, is a bold exploration of contrast, presence, and transformation. The composition is intentionally divided by a thick, horizontal line, positioned according to the golden ratio.

This division creates two distinct textural and conceptual realms. The lower section, corresponding to the short side of the golden ratio, is highly dynamic and complex. It’s built up with material elements like bitumen, iron powder, metal, and marble, meticulously mixed with gesso and layered paint. This area evokes a sense of geological density, industrial decay, or intense complexity. The use of iron powder strongly suggests a grounding, material reality.

The upper part of the canvas, in contrast, offers expansive tranquility and unified tone. A metallic copper acrylic shimmers across this large section with a refined warmth, symbolizing the possibility of transformation, abundance, and emotional resilience. This dualism reflects the series’ core theme: the division and frontier in our world.

Crucially, the horizontal divider is rendered in a pulsating, electric green. This line, initially conceived as a rigid frontier, transforms into a powerful horizon or an opening border. I see the horizon as a constant goal, like a moving line that we strive for but never truly reach, always suggesting an unknown or a new possibility beyond. In this specific piece, the thick green line acts as a bridge between two states, allowing for passage and transformation, rather than separating two realms. The overall effect of the Copper abstract mixed media piece is a powerful visual rupture that combines decorative elegance with deep conceptual nuance. Collectors seeking abstract art with rich textures will find this a compelling statement piece.
